grilled pears with dill mayonnaise

Spring appears to be committedly here now and I get the fever for all things fruit.  These Bartlett pears were looking pretty and almost ripe at the produce section of the super market and all I could think was about grilling something.

barlett pearsThat something would be pears.  Grilled pears are great on their own since the cooking process brings out their sweetness. But wouldn’t a chilled dill mayo just totally balance out the sweet and give that perfect combination of creamy, piquant and just an all over yum?  Totally.  This is what I was going for.

dillI pulled out my grilling pan, cut up the pears and off I went to make my dish.  The dill mayo required almost no time to make and just adding a bit of this and that was all it took to complete the meal.

dill on cutting boardI decided that the coconut yogurt was a nice addition but only a small amount.  You can use any non-dairy yogurt as a  substitute and it would taste just as good.

what you need for dill mayonaiseI thought about using lime juice instead of cider vinegar but the taste wouldn’t have that sharp bite.  But please don’t overdo the cider vinegar since a heavy hand will make the mayo too acidic.

You can replace the coconut yogurt with any type of non-dairy yogurt that you prefer. If the taste of cider vinegar is too strong for you add the optional agave. You can add the agave anyways if you want a sweeter mayonnaise.
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons Vegenaise or non-dairy mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons coconut yogurt or any non-dairy yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped dill
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ⅛ teaspoon agave (optional)
  • 2 Bartlett pears not fully ripe (washed and dried)
Instructions
For the dill mayonnaise
  1. In a small bowl combine Vegenaise and yogurt.
  2. Add half of the cider vinegar and chopped dill and mix
  3. Add remaining cider vinegar, agave (optional)
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste
  5. Cover bowl and chill for at least 20 minutes before using
For the pears
  1. Cut pears into thin slices (about an ⅛ of an inch)
  2. Grease grill pan and heat over medium heat
  3. Add pear slices and cook 1 to 2 minutes until grill marks appear on down side
  4. Gently turn pears over with thongs or spatula
  5. Cook 1 to 2 minutes or until grill marks appear
  6. Turn heat off and gently place grilled pears on board or plate
  7. Let pears cool completely
  8. Spoon chilled dill mayonnaise on top of each pear and garnish with more dill (optional)
  9. Serve immediately

  1. Hi Tabatha! I don’t think I’ve ever made anything with pears (except babyfood lol!)

What a beautiful “light” dish for summertime. I’m going to have to get right to making that dill mayonnaise because I can already see myself putting it on everything 🙂

Hi Karielyn! I had grilled fruits a while back and it suddenly came back to me as a saw the beautiful pears in the store. And the mayo is finger licking good!

  2. […] Grilled Pears with Dill Mayo – I honestly have never tried grilling fruit, but I’ve only heard good things about it. These grilled pears are not only gorgeous, but the dill mayo gives them that little boost of spring that everyone needs in their day! […]
